Dr. Augusto G. Zapico is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences – INEF, at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), where he is a member of the ImFINE research group, dedicated to the study of nutrition, exercise, and healthy lifestyles. He earned his PhD in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences in 2004, complemented by academic training at Manchester Metropolitan University (UK) and a postdoctoral fellowship at Columbia University (USA).
In the field of research, Dr. Zapico has authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles in indexed journals over the past five years, including Pediatric Research, PLOS ONE, Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport, BMC Medicine, Nutrients, Children, Scientific Reports, Journal of Clinical Medicine, and the International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity. He has contributed to several high-impact research projects such as ASOMAD (Madrid City Council), PASOS (Gasol Foundation), PESCA (Quirón Salud), and MISSION-X (European Space Agency).
His primary research interests focus on physical activity and health in children and adolescents, exercise physiology, and nutrition. His expertise has also led to frequent collaborations with Spanish media outlets, where he is regularly featured as a specialist in health and exercise. Dr. Zapico’s academic profile reflects a strong foundation in higher education, a distinguished research trajectory, and a deep commitment to scientific dissemination and the promotion of public health through physical activity, particularly within school environments.
